We're Heading East! WinMan DNR Land Use Agreement

WinMan Trails Foundation, LLC (WinMan Trails), a silent sports venue located 4 miles north of Manitowish Waters on Hwy W, is pleased to announce that it has entered into a Land Use Agreement with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) that provides access to 917 acres of DNR property.  Combined with the adjacent property owned by WinMan Trails, this land use agreement provides a total of 1277 acres for development of public recreational trails for mountain biking, winter fat tire biking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, trail running and hiking. WinMan Trails is family & dog friendly with approximately 12 miles of mountain bike trails, 20 Km (12 miles) of cross-country ski trails and 5 miles (plus 2 more opening this Winter) of snowshoe trails.  The cross-country ski trails and snowshoe trails are open to trail running & hiking during the non-winter months.

Sue & Rick Gering, founders of WInMan Trails, say, “WinMan is very appreciative of the DNR’s cooperation and willingness to work with us on the Land Use Agreement, allowing for the continued development of WinMan. Currently, we are working to expand the mountain bike trails to approximately 20 miles over the next 2-3 years, while maintaining our primary focus of continually working to improve and expand the entire trail system. We are always researching and dreaming of new trail design ideas we can add to WinMan”.

WinMan Trails’ main trailhead is located at 6870 Co. Hwy W, Winchester, WI.  This trailhead includes a modern chalet that is open to the public every day from approximately sunrise to sunset.  The chalet includes restrooms and changing rooms, wifi, and a comfortable gathering space with a wood burning masonry furnace that radiates heat for warming.  According to the Gerings, “none of these trails or amenities would be possible without the generosity of our supporters and their donations.”

WinMan Trails is currently in the midst of our transition from winter sports to summer sports season. WinMan hopes you can come play and explore when we reopen for the Summer Season for mountain biking, trail running, and hiking.
